About us

The Catholic Association for Youth and Adult Education (KIFE) is a national umbrella organisation of 28 member organisations and 2 individuals.

Its mission is to create a forum for youth and adult education institutions and initiatives in Hungary and beyond, to provide services in the field of youth development and adult education, and to bring together the cooperating organisations in value-oriented projects.

Within the framework of the KIFE, the Kerkai Jenő Youth Community Space operates to support the development of young people’s competences, mental well-being and social integration, and to provide professional support for peer helpers, future teachers and educators.

Goals

1. Dissemination and representation of non-formal learning in society

2. Supporting the learning processes of disadvantaged target groups

3. Developing a culture of cooperation

4. Stabilising the functioning of the umbrella organisation, strengthening the transfer of knowledge from citizens

Activities

Coordination and management of project partnerships

Organisation of workshops, trainings and conferences that aim at developing the civil sphere.

Countrywide distribution of materials processed from good-practices, our own experiences and project results in the field of adult education and youth. 

Cooperations with members, within the civil sphere and cross-sector collaborations and partnerships, developing networks through project generated together in order to process social issues of high importance and to fill deficient areas.

Representation of Hungarian adult education, building and strengthening other international relations.

Adjudication of the Kerkai Award (founded in 2005). The awards serves the purpose of rewarding a co-worker with outstanding results on the field of catholic youth and adult education.

Youth non-formal education

Aims

Our youth development programme focuses on supporting young people’s personal development through a holistic approach. It focuses on developing young people’s competences in self-awareness, personal development, relationships, conflict resolution, career choice and learning.

Activities

family life education, environmental awareness, career guidance, introduction to the Christian culture environment, life management, drama education, traditional education, youth community building, youth leadership training, volunteering

Target group

young people aged 14-30

Senior non-formal education

Aims

The overall aim of our senior development programme is to activate older people, to improve their physical-cognitive-mental development, to enable them to maintain their independence and motivation more effectively, thus keeping them active in the learning process, increasing their involvement and volunteering. Our mission is to empower the inclusion of elderly people in society, build their communities and intergenerational links.

organising training courses, meetings, forums and workshops for experts, senior sessions, intergenerational events

people over 60, retired (seniors)

International cooperation

Aims

The aim of the international cooperation programme is to build and maintain cross-border links that enable professionals to increase their knowledge and share their experience internationally. For decades, KIFE has been a member of the European Federation of Catholic Adult Education (FEECA) and we have also been involved as a coordinator or partner in a number of international cooperation projects (youth exchanges, youth leaders’ mobility, mobility of adult education staff, strategic partnerships). The association also maintains close contacts with Hungarian organisations beyond the borders.

Community and civil development

Aims

The Community Development Programme aims to build, maintain and support communities based on shared values, knowledge and goals, appropriate to the characteristics of the settlement (village, town, sub-region). The focus of community organisation, both national and cross-border, is on developing the social skills of individuals, preserving values, ensuring a continuous flow of knowledge and creating forums for the development of common goals and interests of communities engaged in the same activities.
